Reading Players Getting Tells
Getting Tells and Reads on players while playing texas holdem is one of the most important elements of the game for any experiences player. Many players who have developed strategies to read players properly will become consistent winners withing their poker group.
While some people are scared of following the written logic of some poker tell books and guides, there are some solid rules you can follow while playing holdem, or any game of poker.
Who Are You Playing With?
Tells and reads must be adjusted depending on the type of players you are up against. If you are playing against weak players, the tells will be very different than if you were to try and read a stronger player. I have gone ahead and written this article specifically for reading a strong player while playing in holdem.
Getting The Tell
When trying to get a read on a strong player, you will have to analyze many more elements in their game. I have tried to summarize the basic techniques that strong players will use that will give you a solid tell on them.
If a player looks at his hand for a longer time then needed, he does not have a hand.
If a player seems to purposely bet a low amount, he is trying to get you to call his bet for more money on a good hand.
The reverse of the last is also true, a player with a weak hand will oftentimes bet more than a typical player to try and push you out.
A player that is shaking (check hands closely) has hit a very nice hand.
A player who is antsy or playing faster than normal is bluffing.
One of the most important things to remember when using these tips to read people is that strong players will reverse these and use them in their play. This is where reading actors comes into affect. One of the easiest ways to read an actor is to watch them play out a few hands before applying your telling strategies to them.
If they are breaking one of the rules consistently, then you know they are an actor and that you must make yourself a new set of reads to follow when playing against them. There are also many more tells in poker that come from many different parts of the game, but the tells in this article were kept to be simple and correct when playing the most varied amounts of people.
